Bihar Forces Vande Mataram In Schools Violating Religious Freedom And Identity

May 15, 2026 Off By Sharp Media

The NDA government in Bihar has triggered a massive crisis by forcing all schools and madrasas to sing Vande Mataram every day starting April 30 2026. This order is a direct attack on the freedom of educational institutions and the personal faith of millions. While the state claims it wants to build patriotism this is clearly a cold political tactic to target specific communities. By making this song compulsory the government is creating a massive divide in society and turning classrooms into battlegrounds for their narrow political gains.

AIMIM Rejects This Religious Imposition

The AIMIM has rightly slammed this move as a religious imposition that no one should accept in a democracy. Party leader Akhtarul Iman has made it clear that they will fight this on the streets and in the assembly. For Muslims worship is only for God and forcing them to sing a song that treats the land as a deity is a violation of their core faith. The government is intentionally pushing people into a corner to prove a point. This aggressive policy will only lead to more protests and social unrest across the state of Bihar.

Ignoring The Rights Of Large Minority Population

The government is ignoring the fact that over 17 percent of Bihar consists of Muslims according to the 2023 census data. With nearly 23 million Muslims in the state you cannot simply ignore their feelings and religious rules. In places like Kishanganj where Muslims are the majority this law feels like a deliberate insult. The state should focus on solving poverty and hunger instead of bullying a large part of its own population with symbolic rules that do nothing to improve the lives of common people.

Reviving Old Controversies For Political Votes

Vande Mataram has always been a point of conflict because of its religious imagery. Even back in 1937 the Congress party had to cut the song short to keep it secular for the sake of national unity. By bringing back the full controversy now the Bihar government is showing its true colors. They are digging up old wounds just to polarize voters before the next elections. This is not about love for the country it is about using a song as a weapon to make some citizens feel like outsiders.

Clear Violation Of The Indian Constitution

This order is a complete violation of Article 25 and Article 28 of the Indian Constitution. No government has the legal right to force a religious or cultural practice on a citizen in a state funded school. The law is supposed to protect everyone but here the state is acting like a bully. They are breaking the fundamental rules of the constitution to satisfy their own hardline ideology. This is a dangerous step that undermines the very foundation of secular democracy in India.

Supreme Court Rules Against Forced Singing

The government is conveniently forgetting the famous 1986 Supreme Court ruling in the Bijoe Emmanuel case. The court clearly said that no one can be forced to sing if it hurts their religious conscience. More recent judicial discussions in early 2026 also confirm that forced patriotism is not real patriotism. By ignoring the highest court of the land the Bihar government is showing that it does not care about the law. They only care about pushing an aggressive and divisive agenda.

Damaging The Future Of Young Students

Bihar schools are already in terrible shape with poor buildings and a massive lack of qualified teachers. Instead of fixing the broken education system the government is wasting energy on what songs children should sing. This policy will create fear and tension among young students at an age when they should be learning together. When children see their faith being disrespected by the state they lose trust in the system. This is a direct hit to the mental health and unity of the next generation.

True Patriotism Cannot Be Produced By Law

You cannot make someone love their country by passing a law or threatening them with punishment. True loyalty is earned through justice and fair treatment for all citizens not through forced rituals. This aggressive demand for daily singing is a sign of a weak government that wants to control the minds of its people. If the government really cared about the country they would work on providing jobs and safety instead of creating unnecessary drama over a song.

The State Must Stop Cultural Bullying

This directive is a shameful attempt to dominate and erase minority cultures. Bihar needs peace and development not state sponsored religious conflicts. The government must withdraw this order immediately before the situation gets out of control on the streets. Every citizen has the right to live according to their faith without being called a traitor. The state belongs to everyone and it is time the government stopped acting like it only belongs to one specific group.

Standing For Equal Rights And Human Dignity

The people of Bihar will not sit quietly while their fundamental rights are taken away by an aggressive administration. National unity comes from respecting diversity and protecting the weak not from crushing them. This policy is a complete failure and it shows how far the government will go to create a social divide. We must stand against this forced ideology and demand a state where every religion is respected equally. The government needs to wake up and stop playing with the dangerous fire of religious politics.
