Washington: The World Must Not Turn a Blind Eye to India’s Occupation of IIOJK

Dr. Ghulam N. Mir, President of the World Kashmir Awareness Forum, has called for immediate global intervention to resolve the Kashmir dispute. The decades-old issue cannot be ignored any longer, as Kashmiris’ sacrifices including physical, mental, and economic are permanently etched in the region’s history and must not be erased. Dr. Mir’s words echo with urgency: the suffering of Kashmiris under Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) demands international action now.

Martyrs’ Sacrifice: A Legacy of Resistance

Dr. Mir’s remarks come on the solemn occasion of Kashmir Martyrs’ Day, commemorating the 1931 massacre of 22 unarmed Muslim protesters in Srinagar. These men were gunned down for demanding justice during the trial of their hero, Abdul Qadeer. This massacre ignited a long struggle for freedom, one that has seen Kashmiris endure relentless oppression under Indian rule. Their sacrifices are not mere history; they are the foundation of an unbreakable will to resist. Kashmiris will never forget the blood spilled in the pursuit of justice.

Since 1947, Kashmiris have lived under the shadow of brutality including massacres, ethnic cleansing, and colonization at the hands of India. The people of IIOJK continue to pay a heavy price for their pursuit of freedom, and these sacrifices remain central to their identity and struggle.

Modi’s Tyranny: A Systematic Erasure of Kashmiri Identity

The August 5, 2019, revocation of Kashmir’s special status was not a policy shiftit was an act of annexation, designed to erase Kashmir’s identity and further entrench India’s illegal occupation. Dr. Mir condemned this move as a direct assault on Kashmir’s autonomy, turning the region into a dark, repressed colony. Even worse, India has abolished the official commemoration of July 13, a day dedicated to the martyrs’ sacrifices, in an effort to bury the memory of resistance. But Kashmiris remain resolute, their fight for freedom stronger than ever.

The Martyrs’ Graveyard: A Symbol of Eternal Resistance

The Martyrs’ Graveyard in Srinagar is a living testament to the sacrifices made for justice and freedom. Every stone there represents the unyielding spirit of Kashmiris who gave their lives for their homeland. The legacy of these martyrs cannot and will not be silenced by state repression or censorship. Dr. Mir called on the world to act, warning that time is running out for Kashmiris who continue to face brutal oppression.

The World’s Silence: A Call for Global Accountability

The world has failed Kashmir: its inaction in the face of India’s atrocities is tantamount to complicity. Dr. Mir’s call for international intervention is not a plea; it’s a demand for justice. The bloodshed in IIOJK must no longer be ignored. The global community must stand with Kashmiris before it is too late, holding India accountable for its illegal occupation and ensuring Kashmiris’ right to freedom is recognized. The time for action is now.
