Youm-e-Istehsal: August 5 – The Day When Justice Was Betrayed in IIOJK
August 5, 2025The fifth of August marks one of the most painful and defining days in the history of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). It was on this day in 2019 that India, in complete violation of international law and the UN Charter, removed the limited constitutional status of IIOJK through an unlawful and one-sided decision. What followed was not reform rather it was repression.
The people of IIOJK, already under decades of military occupation, were pushed further into fear and uncertainty. With no consultation and no consent, New Delhi imposed a brutal lockdown, increased troop presence, and enforced a media blackout to hide its actions from the world.
Nationwide Observance of Youm-e-Istehsal
In Pakistan, this day is marked as Youm-e-Istehsal: a day to highlight Indian injustices and reaffirm support for the people of IIOJK. Across the country, from Islamabad to Gwadar, and from Lahore to Muzaffarabad, people took part in rallies, seminars, and walks to express unity with Kashmiris.
At exactly 10 AM, a moment of silence was observed to honour the sacrifices of the Kashmiri martyrs. Streets echoed with slogans demanding freedom for IIOJK and calling on the international community to break its silence.
Pakistani embassies abroad also organised events, issuing strong messages that Pakistan will never accept India’s illegal actions in IIOJK and will continue to stand with the oppressed.
Revoking Articles 370 and 35-A: A Political Stunt With Dangerous Aims
India’s move to revoke Articles 370 and 35-A of its constitution was not just a constitutional change — it was a well-planned attempt to alter the identity and demography of a disputed region. The action violated not only India’s own legal framework but also all international commitments made on Kashmir.
By changing the special status, India opened the door to land occupation, settlement of non-locals, and large-scale displacement. These actions aim to erase the Muslim majority character of the region and permanently tighten Indian control through demographic manipulation.
An Environment of Fear and Oppression
Since that day, the people of IIOJK have faced a wave of state-led oppression. Young men have been detained without reason. Political leaders remain behind bars. Journalists and activists face threats, harassment, and censorship. The space for freedom of speech has disappeared.
Black laws like the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) have been used to crush dissent. Night raids, arbitrary arrests, and custodial torture have become common. Entire towns live under constant surveillance, and collective punishment is a tool used without hesitation.
The region remains under a digital siege. Internet restrictions and media blackouts are used to silence voices and hide the truth.
Kashmiris Remain Steadfast in Their Struggle
Despite every attempt to crush their spirit, the people of IIOJK remain committed to their just struggle. From young students to elderly citizens, Kashmiris continue to resist Indian rule with unmatched courage and dignity.
Their message is simple: we are not part of India, and we reject its illegal occupation. Every year, Youm-e-Istehsal reminds the world of their strength and sacrifices.
The people of IIOJK are not demanding charity; they are demanding the right promised to them by the United Nations: the right to self-determination.
Global Silence and Double Standards
The international community has largely failed the people of Kashmir. Despite clear reports from global organisations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and various UN bodies, meaningful action against India has been missing.
Statements of concern have been made, but no real steps have followed. There have been no sanctions, no investigations, and no accountability. This silence sends a dangerous message that powerful countries can get away with human rights violations if they serve economic or political interests. The world must understand that silence in the face of injustice is support for the oppressor.
Pakistan’s Firm and Clear Position
Pakistan has always stood by the people of IIOJK and continues to raise its voice at all global platforms. From the United Nations to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Pakistan has remained consistent in its call for justice and for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.
The Prime Minister, Foreign Office, and all state institutions have made it clear: the change in IIOJK’s status is illegal, unacceptable, and has no value in the eyes of international law. Pakistan will continue its moral, diplomatic, and political support for the Kashmiri cause until their freedom is achieved.
The Moral Case for Justice
Kashmir is not just a territorial issue; it is a humanitarian crisis. The people of IIOJK are not numbers. They are human beings whose lives have been turned upside down by occupation, war, and silence. Their pain is real. Their suffering is ongoing. And their cause is just.
The international community must take a moral stand. Freedom, dignity, and justice are not privileges. They are basic rights that must be protected for all, regardless of politics or borders.
Conclusion: The Fight for Freedom Cannot Be Silenced
As Pakistan observes Youm-e-Istehsal, one message rings louder than ever: the people of IIOJK will never accept occupation, and Pakistan will never stop supporting them.
This struggle will not end with speeches or resolutions. It demands action from the global community, from human rights defenders, and from every voice that believes in fairness.
Kashmiris will continue to fight with their voices, their votes, and their values. They have not surrendered, and they never will. The time has come for the world to stand on the right side of history.
