Yasin Malik Rejects Terror Charges and Reaffirms Political Struggle
April 4, 2025New Delhi – Illegally detained Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik has reaffirmed his status as a political leader, rejecting the Indian government’s attempts to label him a terrorist.
Malik appeared before two benches of the Indian Supreme Court via video conferencing from New Delhi’s notorious Tihar Jail. The proceedings were overseen by Justices Abhay S. Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan.
During the hearing, Malik responded to the arguments presented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who represented the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Mehta attempted to justify the charges against Malik by citing media reports and photographs allegedly showing him with Hafiz Saeed. These images, he claimed, were widely circulated in national and regional newspapers as well as television channels.
However, Malik dismissed these claims as part of India’s long-standing strategy to discredit Kashmiri political leaders advocating for self-determination. He reiterated that his struggle has always been political and peaceful, emphasizing that associating him with terrorism is a deliberate attempt to malign the legitimate Kashmiri resistance movement.
The JKLF leader’s case is seen as a symbol of India’s broader efforts to silence pro-freedom voices in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Rights organizations and international observers continue to express concerns over his detention, viewing it as part of India’s systematic repression of Kashmiri political activists.
As the legal battle continues, Malik’s firm stance against the allegations underscores the ongoing struggle for justice in Kashmir, where political dissent is often criminalized under India’s repressive laws.
