Mehbooba Mufti, the President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of deliberately delaying elections in the Islamabad-Rajouri seat in Kashmir to manipulate voters in favor of BJP allies and discourage people from exercising their franchise amidst the ongoing turmoil in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Mehbooba Mufti visited Rajouri to continue her campaign efforts in the area. Speaking at election rallies in Maniyal Gali, Rajouri, she underscored the importance of the ongoing elections in safeguarding the unique identity of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mufti emphasized that the polls offer an opportunity to convey a clear message to the Union Government that decisions made since August 5, 2019, must be overturned. She expressed her determination to contest from the region despite its remote location and the challenges associated with campaigning. Mufti highlighted the deep emotional connection her father, PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, had with the area.

“I am your candidate and seek your vote because PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had a very deep connection with this area,” Mufti affirmed. She acknowledged the concerns raised about campaigning difficulties in this remote region but remained resolute in her decision to contest from there. Mufti reminisced about her experiences trekking through these terrains during challenging times when many locals were too afraid to leave their homes.

“I want you to strengthen my resolve and ensure my victory so that I can represent you in parliament with the same courage and determination,” she urged the electorate.

Mufti’s remarks reflect her commitment to representing the interests and concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the face of political obstacles and attempts to undermine the democratic process. Her decision to contest from Rajouri symbolizes her dedication to honoring her father’s legacy and serving the region that holds a special place in her heart.

As the election campaign progresses, Mufti’s message resonates with voters who seek representation that prioritizes their welfare and safeguards the unique identity of Jammu and Kashmir within the broader context of Indian politics.
