UN Must Address Kashmir and Palestine for Global Peace, Pakistan’s Envoy Urges
August 23, 2024Munir Akram, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, has called for the resolution of the Kashmir and Palestine issues to achieve lasting global peace. His remarks were made during a recent address to the UN Security Council (UNSC).
Akram highlighted the need for both regional and international cooperation to effectively resolve these longstanding conflicts. He criticized the current international action plans for addressing terrorism and extremism, calling them ineffective and flawed.
According to Akram, the UNSC has a crucial role in addressing and ending the genocide in Gaza and IIOJK. He argued that failure to address the root causes of terrorism leads to widespread conflict, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive and effective strategy.
The Pakistani diplomat noted that the successful counter-terrorism efforts in Pakistan’s border regions were the result of cooperation and the involvement of local communities. This approach, he suggested, could serve as a model for other regions grappling with similar issues.
Akram also emphasized that discussions within the Security Council could foster new ideas and solutions for ongoing conflicts. His comments reflect a broader call for a more engaged and collaborative international effort to tackle global peace and security challenges.
