The Kashmir dispute festers while the world watches in silence. It’s time for the UN to fulfill its promises.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has made a resounding call for the United Nations to enforce its Security Council resolutions to resolve the long-standing Kashmir conflict.

In a bold statement from Srinagar on Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas highlighted the grave situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which has been under an unrelenting military and police lockdown since August 5, 2019. This marks the day India stripped the region of its special status and carved it into two union territories, deepening the occupation.

Minhas condemned the illegal detention of thousands of Kashmiris, including prominent leaders like APHC Chairman Massrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, and Aasiya Andrabi, who languish in Indian jails under fabricated charges. He underscored India’s blatant disregard for international law, emphasizing that New Delhi has no legitimacy over a region recognized by the UN as disputed.

Pointing to the unfulfilled commitment by both India and Pakistan to hold a fair and impartial plebiscite, Minhas urged the UN Secretary-General António Guterres to take decisive steps to address the ongoing crisis.

The APHC’s message is clear: the world must confront India’s violations and press for justice, ensuring Kashmiris are granted their inalienable right to determine their future.
