UN Day: APHC Calls for Swift UN Action to Address IIOJK Crisis
October 24, 2024As the world observes United Nations Day, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has forcefully reiterated the urgent need for implementing UN resolutions on Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
On this 79th anniversary of the UN, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas issued a plain warning about the organization’s waning credibility. He pointed out India’s blatant disregard for Security Council resolutions concerning the Kashmir dispute.
“It is time for the global body to exercise its authority and implement its resolutions on Kashmir,” he stated. His words highlight the UN’s failure to act effectively over decades.
Minhas emphasized that the unresolved Kashmir issue raises significant questions about the UN’s legitimacy. He insisted, “UN Day serves as a reminder that the Kashmir issue remains on the agenda despite over seven decades of inaction.” This inaction is both shameful and unacceptable.
The spokesman called for unwavering global support for the Kashmiri people. He urged the UN to fulfill its obligations regarding their right to self-determination. It is essential that the international community recognizes this urgent need.
UN resolutions explicitly uphold the Kashmiris’ right to a free and fair referendum. Yet, these mandates have been ignored. The global silence on this matter only perpetuates the suffering of the Kashmiri people.
Minhas did not hold back in criticizing the Modi regime’s actions since August 5, 2019. He argued that these actions violate established UN resolutions concerning Jammu and Kashmir. This blatant violation must not go unchallenged.
He stressed that the Kashmir dispute is the oldest issue on the UNSC’s agenda. Immediate action from the UN is not just necessary; it is long overdue. The world cannot afford to ignore this pressing crisis any longer.
“Resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions is vital for peace and stability in South Asia,” Minhas concluded. His assertion underscores the wider implications of the Kashmir issue for regional security.
The plight of the Kashmiri people demands renewed international attention. Their struggles cannot continue to be sidelined while the UN remains passive. The status quo is untenable.
The APHC’s statement is a rallying cry for justice and accountability. It reflects a growing frustration among Kashmiris and their supporters. The world must heed this call for action.
India’s actions have led to a climate of oppression in IIOJK. The international community’s complicity in ignoring this situation is disheartening.
The urgency for a resolution is profound. The Kashmir issue should not linger indefinitely on the UN agenda. For over seven decades, Kashmiris have endured immense suffering. Their voices deserve to be heard, and their rights must be acknowledged.
As the UN celebrates its anniversary, it must confront its failures head-on. Only by addressing the Kashmir issue can it restore its credibility and fulfill its mission of promoting peace and justice.
