Remembering Aali Kadal Martyrs of IIOJK
November 19, 2024The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) marked the 31st martyrdom anniversary of the Aali Kadal martyrs in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), paying heartfelt tribute to their sacrifices in the ongoing fight for Kashmir’s self-determination.
On this fateful day in 1992, Indian forces mercilessly martyred prominent resistance leaders, including Sheikh Abdul Hameed, Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, Advocate Jamil Chaudhry, and others. These men gave their lives fighting for the cause of Kashmir’s freedom.
To honor their memory, activists visited the Martyrs’ Graveyard in Eidgah, Srinagar, offering tributes to their courage and unwavering commitment. This event was not just a ceremony but a reminder of the bloodshed Kashmiris have endured at the hands of Indian forces.
An APHC spokesman emphasized that the sacrifices of the Aali Kadal martyrs would never be forgotten. Their legacy, he declared, is permanently etched in the hearts of Kashmiris, fueling the ongoing struggle for self-determination. The spokesman urged the people to stay resolute in their pursuit of freedom, calling for a UN-mandated plebiscite as the only just solution to the Kashmir conflict.
Despite enduring 77 years of brutal occupation, the Kashmiri people remain unbowed. The APHC condemned India’s ongoing attempts to alter the region’s demographic composition, a tactic designed to skew future plebiscite results. These actions, the APHC stated, amount to collective punishment for Kashmiris asserting their internationally recognized rights.
The APHC has once again called on the international community to intervene, stressing that lasting peace in South Asia hinges on the resolution of the Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of its people. The group urged the United Nations to honor its own resolutions on Kashmir, pressuring India to end its oppressive policies and fulfill its promises to the Kashmiri people.
The struggle, they reiterated, will continue until the long-promised plebiscite is held under UN auspices. This is not just a political demand; it is a fight for justice and recognition of Kashmir’s fundamental rights.
In a related event, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) organized a prayer ceremony in Rawalpindi for the Aali Kadal martyrs. The event also called for the release of JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik and other political detainees held in Indian jails.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat leader Qazi Imran, based in Islamabad, paid tribute to Shaheed Ejaz Akbar, recently martyred in Sopore. His statement echoed the same message of resistance and solidarity for the martyrs and their families.
The spirit of Kashmir’s struggle is unwavering. Even in the face of oppression, the fight for self-determination continues. The martyrs of Aali Kadal serve as a powerful reminder of the price of freedom, and their legacy remains a beacon for future generations.
