Protests Erupt in AJK Against Amit Shah’s Visit to IIOJK
April 9, 2025A massive protest in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir has sent a strong message against Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to IIOJK, with demonstrators voicing their rejection of India’s occupation and policies in the region.
A large-scale protest demonstration was held in Muzaffarabad in response to Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Thousands of people, including women, gathered to condemn his visit, expressing their anger and defiance against India’s continued occupation of the region. The protesters carried banners and placards with slogans such as “The Kashmir soaked in blood is ours,” “We will take away freedom,” and “Unacceptable, unacceptable, Indian occupation unacceptable.”
The protest, organized by Pasban Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, was addressed by several prominent leaders, including Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, Usman Ali Hashim, Mehnaz Qureshi, PPP leader Shaukat Javed Mir, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Saleem Shah, and Raja Sajjad Latif Khan, Director of the Kashmir Liberation Cell. The speakers at the event voiced their strong opposition to Amit Shah’s visit, denouncing him as responsible for the illegal actions taken by the Indian government on August 5, 2019, when Article 370 was revoked, stripping IIOJK of its special status.
The speakers emphasized that the people of Kashmir, both in the occupied territory and in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, reject India’s military occupation and aggressive policies. They called Amit Shah a “terrorist” and stated that no one in IIOJK would welcome him. According to the protesters, Shah’s visit only further symbolizes India’s oppression and disregard for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
Protesters waved black flags to signify their mourning for the lives lost and the ongoing repression in IIOJK. They also raised their voices against the ongoing human rights violations, including killings, forced disappearances, and the suppression of Kashmiri voices, perpetuated by Indian forces in the occupied region.
The demonstration in Azad Jammu and Kashmir marks another significant expression of solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as the region continues to face Indian military occupation and oppression. The protestors’ message was clear: the people of Kashmir will never accept India’s control over their land and will continue to demand their right to freedom and self-determination.
