Peace through Repression: Mehbooba Criticizes India’s Approach in Kashmir
May 10, 2024The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) orchestrated a monumental public gathering in Budgam district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), featuring a keynote address by party president Mehbooba Mufti. The event served as a platform for Mufti to reaffirm the PDP’s unwavering commitment to the future of Kashmir’s younger generations and the fundamental rights of its people.
Mufti asserted that the PDP has become a target because of its steadfast support for the aspirations of the Kashmiri populace. Despite facing intense scrutiny, raids, and attempts to undermine its integrity, Mufti praised the resilience of the party’s workers who stood firm in the face of adversity.
Highlighting the tactics employed by India to suppress dissent in Kashmir, Mufti lamented the use of imprisonment, repression, and draconian laws like the UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) to curtail the rights and freedoms of Kashmiris. She underscored the incessant efforts by the Indian government since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 to disempower and marginalize the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mufti emphasized the PDP’s role in confronting this onslaught against Kashmiri rights, resources, and identity, vowing to continue the struggle through peaceful and democratic means. She urged the people to recognize the gravity of the situation and to support a party that fearlessly advocates for the concerns of IIOJK residents.
In a promise to the electorate, Mufti assured that if the PDP secures a mandate in the upcoming elections, the party will diligently represent the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. She pledged to amplify their voices within the Parliament and to tirelessly advocate for their rights and interests.
The rally in Budgam served as a rallying cry for Kashmiri empowerment and resistance against oppressive measures. Mufti’s impassioned address resonated with attendees, galvanizing support for the PDP’s vision of a democratic and inclusive future for IIOJK.
