PDP Protests Against BJP Leader’s Remarks on 1931 Martyrs in IIOJK
March 7, 2025Tensions escalated in IIOJK as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took to the streets, strongly condemning BJP leader Sunil Sharma’s controversial remarks about the 1931 martyrs.
In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) organized a protest march in Srinagar on Thursday against BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Sunil Sharma. The demonstration was triggered by Sharma’s remarks regarding the 1931 martyrs, which the PDP deemed disrespectful. Party members demanded an immediate apology from the BJP legislator.
The protest, led by PDP leader Iltija Mufti, began at the party’s head office, with activists marching toward Lal Chowk. However, their procession was halted by police near Polo View. Protesters carried placards bearing messages such as “Martyrs of July 13, 1931, are our heroes” and “July 13, 1931, sacrifices will never die.” The participants also raised slogans denouncing Sharma and the BJP’s stance.
While addressing the media, Iltija Mufti highlighted the historical significance of the 1931 martyrs. She stated that these individuals sacrificed their lives to end the autocratic rule in IIOJK, paving the way for democracy in the region. Mufti criticized the BJP for attempting to erase historical events and asserted that such efforts would not be tolerated.
Furthermore, Iltija Mufti urged all political parties to support PDP MLA Waheed Para’s resolution in the assembly. This resolution calls for the reinstatement of July 13 as a public holiday, honoring the sacrifices made by the martyrs.
