PDP Head Points out BJP’s Elections Manipulations in IIOJK
September 12, 2024Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has criticized the Modi administration for its inconsistent approach towards Jamaat-e-Islami. She alleges that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is manipulating elections by using proxy candidates while keeping the party’s genuine leaders behind bars in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Speaking at a public gathering in Chandgam, Pulwama, Mufti highlighted the BJP’s ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and the ongoing detention of its leaders. She questioned the legitimacy of candidates who claim to represent the party while its core members face repression.
Mufti urged the Modi government to address these issues directly. She called for the lifting of the Jamaat-e-Islami ban, the reopening of their schools, and the return of their orchards. Mufti also demanded an end to the use of aggressive tactics by agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against the party.
The PDP leader expressed concern over the Election Commission of India’s and the Modi government’s silence on the Jamaat-e-Islami issue. She believes their inaction reflects poorly on the democratic process and undermines electoral integrity.
In addition, Mufti questioned the timing of Engineer Abdul Rasheed’s recent release from detention. She suggested that his release, just before elections, appears suspicious. “The government could have released him during Parliament sessions. While his release is welcome, many other youths remain imprisoned and should also be considered for release,” Mufti remarked.
Mufti’s comments reflect broader concerns about the fairness and transparency of the electoral process under the current government. Her call for a review of policies and practices concerning Jamaat-e-Islami highlights the tensions between political strategy and democratic principles.
