Pakistan’s Role in Regional Harmony through Scholarships for Afghan Students
August 13, 2024Pakistan has recently introduced 4,500 scholarships for Afghan students in both social and natural sciences. This initiative continues despite the current security tensions and recent deportations of unregistered Afghan nationals.
The Government of Pakistan (GoP) has approved these scholarships as part of the third phase of the Allama Iqbal Scholarships Programme. Among the 4,500 scholarships, 1,500 are specifically allocated for female students. This effort aims to provide educational opportunities to Afghan nationals, with a particular focus on women.
In the previous two phases of the programme, 6,000 scholarships were awarded. Half of these have been completed, with the remaining expected to conclude by 2025. This ongoing commitment underscores Pakistan’s investment in the future leaders of Afghanistan and its dedication to regional stability.
So far, 181 Afghan students, including 61 females, have arrived in Pakistan and enrolled in prestigious institutions such as NUTECH and FAST. This demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to educational growth and its role in strengthening ties between the two nations.
The Allama Iqbal Scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, and stipends, reflecting Pakistan’s goodwill and dedication to fostering peace and enhancing bilateral relations. Despite security challenges, these scholarships are a testament to Pakistan’s dedication to supporting Afghan students and promoting cross-border cooperation.
Through initiatives like the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships Programme, Pakistan positions itself as a leader in educational excellence and cross-cultural cooperation. By opening its doors to Afghan scholars, Pakistan not only strengthens regional ties but also enhances its reputation as a compassionate and forward-thinking neighbor.
The success of Afghan students in Pakistani universities highlights Pakistan’s robust educational infrastructure and its genuine commitment to nurturing talent. This initiative by Pakistan will prove to be a positive move towards peace and harmony in the region.
