Pakistan’s Defence Day: A Tribute to Resilience and Valor

Defence Day in Pakistan is a significant occasion commemorating the nation’s defense during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. Celebrated on September 6, this day honors both the armed forces and civilians who stood firm against aggression.

The conflict began on this date when India launched an attack on Pakistan’s international border. This unprovoked aggression marked the start of a war that tested Pakistan’s military and national resolve.

Defence Day symbolizes the resilience, courage, and unity of Pakistan in the face of external threats. It serves as a powerful reminder of the collective effort to protect the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The day is marked by parades, military displays, and exhibitions showcasing Pakistan’s advancements and military capabilities. These events aim to boost the morale of both the armed forces and the public.

This year marks the 59th anniversary of Defence Day, reflecting on the heroic defense mounted against India’s surprise attack. The Pakistani Armed Forces successfully repelled India’s efforts to capture key areas, including Lahore.

On September 8, India escalated its offensive with a major attack in the Sialkot sector, resulting in one of the largest tank battles since World War II. Despite facing significant challenges, Pakistan’s military not only thwarted the assault but also captured substantial Indian territory, inflicting heavy losses.

September 12 is remembered as the death anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed. A company commander in Lahore during the 1965 war, Bhatti’s bravery and sacrifice earned him the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military honor.

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) also demonstrated its prowess by targeting Indian military installations and achieving air superiority. PAF’s operations resulted in the destruction of over 50 Indian Air Force aircraft and significant damage to others.

On the naval front, despite being numerically inferior then, the Pakistan Navy conducted impactful operations. Notably, Operation Dwarka on September 8 aimed to neutralize Indian radar systems and provoke a strategic response from the Indian Navy. The operation successfully disrupted Indian naval plans, including the sinking of key vessels
