Pakistan Slams Indias Unjust Treatment of Kashmiri Leader Shabbir Shah and Demands Immediate Release
May 1, 2026Pakistan has voiced a very strong and loud protest against the ongoing imprisonment of the famous leader Shabbir Ahmad Shah. The government is deeply worried about the way a thirty year old case is being used to keep him behind bars in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir known as IIOJK. This situation is not just a legal matter but a serious human rights crisis that the world needs to see. Shabbir Shah has spent most of his life fighting for the rights of his people and his current detention is a clear attempt to break his spirit. Pakistan calls this behavior a violation of every international rule of justice and fairness.
The Terrible Health Crisis of Shabbir Shah in Prison
The physical condition of Shabbir Shah is getting worse every single day he spends in jail. He has been diagnosed with cancer which is a life threatening disease that requires specialized medical care. He also suffers from heart problems and severe pain in his back. Despite these serious health issues he is being kept in very harsh prison conditions in IIOJK without proper access to the doctors he needs. Keeping an elderly and sick man in a small cell while he fights cancer is extremely cruel. Pakistan believes that this denial of healthcare is a deliberate act to cause him more pain and suffering.
The Long History of Illegal Arrests and Fake Charges
Shabbir Shah has spent more than thirty seven years of his life in different jails. This is a record amount of time for any political prisoner in the world today. He has been in his current detention for seven years straight on charges that have never been proven in a fair way. Using a case that is three decades old to extend his stay in prison is a joke of a legal process. It shows that the goal is not to find the truth but to keep a popular leader away from his people in IIOJK. This long history of arrests shows a pattern of targeting anyone who speaks up for the rights of the people.
Double Standards in the Indian Judicial System
There is a very clear and disturbing double standard in how justice is delivered. On one side the system gives freedom and bail to people like Swami Aseemanand and Colonel Purohit who were accused of very violent crimes. On the other side Kashmiri Muslims like Shabbir Shah are kept in dark cells for decades for just having a political opinion.
The Unfair Trial and Life Sentence of Yasin Malik
Yasin Malik is another major leader who is facing extreme injustice in the same system. He has been locked up since 2019 and was given a life sentence in a case that many people believe was totally fabricated. He was not given a proper chance to defend himself or have a fair trial according to international standards. Pakistan is very concerned that these leaders are being silenced through a legal process that is biased from the start.
The Misuse of Draconian Laws Like the UAPA
The authorities are using a very harsh law called the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act to arrest anyone they want in IIOJK. This law allows them to keep people in jail for a very long time without even starting a trial. Data shows that in most of these cases the government fails to prove any crime in court. The conviction rate is extremely low which proves that the law is only used to harass and punish people before they are even found guilty.
Targeting Education by Sealing Jamia Siraj ul Uloom
The recent decision to ban and seal the Jamia Siraj ul Uloom school is a direct attack on the future of children in IIOJK. This institution was a ray of hope for poor families who could not afford to send their kids to expensive schools. It has produced many successful doctors and engineers who are now serving the community. By closing this school the authorities are punishing the innocent students and taking away their right to learn.
Rejecting the Illegal Creation of New Districts in Ladakh
Pakistan has completely rejected the plan to create five new districts in the Ladakh region. These areas are part of a territory that is recognized by the United Nations as a disputed land. India cannot make such big administrative changes on its own without violating international agreements. These actions are seen as a sneaky way to change the map and the population of the region. Pakistan insists that no matter how many new districts are created the legal status of the land will remain the same until the people get their right to vote.
Ignoring United Nations Resolutions and Global Rules
The entire region of IIOJK is a disputed territory according to the United Nations Security Council. There are several resolutions that say the final future of the land must be decided through a free and fair vote by the people. By taking unilateral actions and changing laws India is ignoring these global promises. Pakistan stands firm on the position that only a plebiscite under the watch of the United Nations can bring a real and lasting peace.
Demanding a Just Resolution and the Protection of Rights
The global community and human rights groups must wake up and see the reality of what is happening in IIOJK. It is not enough to just watch from the side while elderly leaders like Shabbir Shah suffer in prison without medical help. There must be a strong pressure on the authorities to release all political prisoners and stop the use of unfair laws. The rights of the people to speak and to learn and to decide their own future cannot be suppressed forever. Only by following the path of justice and respecting international law can this long conflict finally come to an end.
