Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people in their struggle for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, in line with UN Security Council resolutions. This declaration came from Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch during her weekly press briefing.

Highlighting the 33rd anniversary of the Chota Bazaar massacre in Srinagar, observed on June 11, Baloch recounted the tragic events of 1991 when India’s Central Reserve Police Force personnel opened fire on civilians. The massacre resulted in the deaths of 32 civilians, including an elderly woman and a child, and injured 22 others. “We remember the victims on this sombre occasion and demand justice for them,” Baloch stated, underscoring Pakistan’s call for accountability and justice.

In addition to addressing the Kashmir issue, Baloch also condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, urging the international community to hold Israel accountable for its crimes and push for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire. She emphasized the need for global action to end the conflict and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Baloch welcomed the June 12 report from the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel. The report confirmed various war crimes committed by Israel, such as the use of starvation as a method of warfare, intentional attacks on civilians, forcible transfers, and inhumane punishments. “The findings of the commission of inquiry have confirmed reports of Israeli war crimes,” she remarked, reinforcing Pakistan’s stance on the need for justice and accountability in Gaza.

Pakistan’s dual focus on Kashmir and Palestine highlights its broader commitment to advocating for the rights of oppressed peoples and seeking just resolutions to long-standing conflicts. By drawing attention to historical injustices and current atrocities, Pakistan aims to galvanize international support and action towards achieving peace and justice in these troubled regions.
