In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), major opposition parties, including the Congress, staged protests in Jammu, demanding the restoration of statehood. They strongly criticized the BJP-led Delhi regime’s decision to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which they view as an illegal action.

The protests were led by Congress IIOJK Chief Vikar Rasool Wani and Congress Working President Raman Bhalla. Demonstrators raised slogans calling for the immediate restoration of statehood, along with safeguards for land, jobs, and natural resources for the local population.

National Conference General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Saghar also criticized the Modi government’s unilateral decisions on August 5, 2019, stating that these measures have failed to achieve their intended objectives. Other opposition leaders, including Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, condemned the August 5 actions, describing the day as a “dark day” and a “blot on Indian democracy.”
