Omar Abdullah Warns Allies of BJP’s Political Maneuvers in IIOJK
June 11, 2024National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has issued a caution to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal (United) regarding the Bharatiya Janata Party’s potential efforts to secure a majority independently, hinting at a looming “Operation Lotus” to diminish reliance on its main allies.
Abdullah has firmly stated his decision not to contest the forthcoming assembly elections in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, citing his refusal to “humiliate” himself by participating in the legislature of the so-called union territory. Instead, he intends to lead his party’s campaign and advocate for the restoration of statehood.
His remarks coincide with the BJP’s recent attainment of a majority in the Lok Sabha elections, while its allies have failed to make significant impacts. Abdullah predicts that the BJP will resort to poaching legislators from other parties to bolster its position.
Advising the TDP and JD(U) to remain vigilant, Abdullah points out the historical success of the BJP’s “Operation Lotus.” This strategy, named after the BJP’s lotus election symbol, involves enticing legislators from other parties, particularly allies, to either join the BJP or support its government, thereby consolidating power or securing a majority.
