NC leader Slams Indian Government’s Moves in IIOJK
December 6, 2024Hasnain Masoodi slams Modi government for undermining democracy in IIOJK and stoking communal divisions through controversial policies.
Hasnain Masoodi, senior leader of the National Conference (NC) and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), has sharply criticized the Indian government for undermining democracy in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Masoodi urged the Modi administration to respect the public mandate in the region, stressing the importance of allowing the democratically elected government to function freely.
The NC leader emphasized the government’s failure to acknowledge the aspirations of the people of IIOJK and called for an end to policies that suffocate democratic processes. He specifically referenced the July 13 Martyrs’ Day, a significant historical event, and expressed hope that the Indian government would reconsider its stance on such pivotal dates, which hold deep sentimental value for the local population.
Masoodi also took aim at the controversial court orders mandating surveys of religious buildings, particularly mosques. According to him, these measures violate the 1991 Religious Places Act, which protects religious structures from undue interference. The NC leader accused the government of using such tactics to stoke communal divisions and create further animosity between different communities. He condemned these moves as deliberate attempts to “cultivate hatred” and warned the public not to fall for such divisive tactics. “This is not acceptable in any form,” Masoodi said, stressing the need for unity in the face of these divisive policies.
By calling out the government’s actions, Masoodi paints a clear picture of the deteriorating political and social environment in the region. His words reflect growing frustration with the ongoing erosion of democratic norms in IIOJK.
