NC Highlights Critical Issues in IIOJK in Indian Parliament
August 15, 2024Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, a National Conference leader and member of Indian Parliament from Srinagar, has raised significant concerns about Indian-illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Mehdi highlighted several pressing issues affecting the region. He drew attention to the challenges faced by the local horticulture sector. According to Mehdi, recent government actions have negatively impacted this vital industry.
Additionally, Mehdi criticized the Modi government for its alleged suppression of independent journalism in IIOJK. He believes that these measures have compromised the free flow of information and transparency.
Cultural preservation is another area of concern for Mehdi. He expressed worry over what he perceives as the erosion of IIOJK’s rich cultural heritage. “Kashmir’s identity is at risk, and we must act to safeguard it,” Mehdi said.
Tourism management in IIOJK also came under scrutiny. Mehdi argued that the current lack of regulation is putting a strain on local resources and the environment. He proposed implementing a cap on tourist numbers to prevent overuse and preserve the region’s delicate ecological balance.
The unchecked influx of tourists has led to other issues, including the rise in public alcohol consumption. Mehdi emphasized the need for sustainable tourism practices that address both environmental and social impacts.
Unemployment and the need for sustainable development were also on Mehdi’s agenda. He stressed that these issues must be addressed to ensure long-term progress and stability in the region.
To summarize, Mehdi’s concerns span across various sectors, from the environment and tourism to culture and employment. His calls for action reflect a broader need for comprehensive strategies to address the multifaceted challenges IIOJK is facing today.
