Tariq Hameed Karra, the IIOJK Congress chief, has made yet another round of promises about the National Conference and Congress (NC-Cong) Alliance. He claims they are committed to restoring the rights stripped from the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Karra has boldly stated that the decisions made by the BJP-installed administration will face scrutiny. But will this scrutiny lead to meaningful change, or is it just political theatrics? This is yet to disclose.

In a recent press conference in Srinagar, Karra declared that the electorate successfully kept the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power. “It is people’s victory,” he proclaimed, this victory rings heavy against the backdrop of ongoing struggles.

Karra emphasized that President’s rule must end before any government can form. He insists an order has been issued to facilitate this, yet the uncertainty surrounding governance remains. “No government will prefer to see powers being snatched from it,” he said, but such sentiments only highlight the ineffectiveness of current leadership.

The alliance partners have taken it upon themselves to form a government, but their commitment to restoring rights and guarantees feels more like a political slogan than a concrete plan.

He further stressed the urgent need to restore statehood, secure land, and create jobs. “Eradicating unemployment is a must,” he asserted, highlighting the dire situation facing youth in the region. Yet, mere rhetoric won’t solve the pressing issues at hand.

Karra indicated that all decisions made during the Lieutenant Governor’s rule will undergo review. However, this promise begs the question: what impact will these reviews have if they remain superficial?

Reacting to comments made by NC Vice President Omar Abdullah, Karra emphasized the need for practical solutions. “We can only work in the right direction when statehood is restored,” he asserted,

The people of IIOJK deserve practicality of the promises made. They need effective governance that addresses their needs. If the alliance is serious about its goals, it must demonstrate real commitment through actionable plans.

Otherwise, the voices of the electorate will continue to go unheard, and the promised restoration of rights will remain nothing more than a distant dream. Now is the moment for real action.
