Modi’s Repression in IIOJK: A Systematic Campaign of Oppression

Civil rights activists have sharply condemned the Modi-led Indian government for its brutal repression of the people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). This systematic campaign aims to silence dissent and crush the Kashmiri quest for self-determination.

In interviews from Srinagar, local activists exposed how fake cases are being framed against Kashmiris. These malicious charges are a desperate attempt by New Delhi to break the unwavering resolve of Kashmiris for their rights, as recognized by the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

India’s security agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Enforcement Directorate (ED), and State Investigation Agency (SIA), have been weaponized to suppress the legitimate political aspirations of Kashmiris. These agencies are used not for justice, but as tools of state-sponsored oppression.

More than 5,000 Kashmiris languish in Indian prisons, many held on fabricated charges or simply for holding political beliefs. The scale of the injustice is staggering, yet the international community largely turns a blind eye to these ongoing atrocities.

By labeling the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination as “terrorism,” India is not only undermining a legitimate, globally recognized movement, but also violating international law. This includes blatant breaches of the Geneva Conventions, which safeguard the rights of prisoners, yet India’s occupation forces continue to disregard these protections with impunity.

Despite years of harassment, arbitrary arrests, and violence, Kashmiris remain resolute. The Indian government’s tactics of intimidation, from detentions to torture, have only hardened the determination of the Kashmiri people. Their struggle for self-determination remains steadfast, and their demand for justice has not wavered.

Activists have made a direct call to global human rights organizations to intervene. Immediate action is needed to end the unlawful detentions and provide justice for the people of Kashmir. The continued silence of the international community is complicit in this ongoing human rights crisis.

India’s actions in IIOJK are not just an internal matter—they are a violation of international human rights and the rule of law. The Modi government’s attempt to stifle the Kashmiri people’s pursuit of freedom through repression, incarceration, and false accusations must be condemned globally. The struggle for justice in IIOJK is far from over, and the world can no longer ignore the cries of the oppressed.
