Ahead of Indian Prime Minister Modi’s visit, a surge in security measures has deepened the challenges faced by Kashmiri residents under occupation.

In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), severe restrictions have been imposed under the guise of security preparations for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit.

Modi is set to inaugurate the Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg, located in the Ganderbal district, on Monday. His visit has triggered a substantial increase in the presence of occupation forces across the region.

The tightened measures include the heavy deployment of the Indian army, paramilitary personnel, and local police, particularly in and around the Sonamarg area. Additional checkpoints have been established for frisking and monitoring, while surveillance and patrol activities have intensified. Area domination exercises, thorough searches, and 24/7 patrols are also in effect. Modi’s security is being managed by the Special Protection Group (SPG), which has taken charge of his innermost security perimeter.

An Indian official stated that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been implemented and will remain active until January 13. These measures include the deployment of additional forces, installation of CCTV surveillance, and the creation of more frisking and monitoring points.

The frequent visits of high-ranking Indian political and military officials to IIOJK consistently worsen the plight of the Kashmiri population. These so-called security arrangements further suppress the basic freedoms of residents, intensifying their hardships under the ongoing occupation. As restrictions tighten, daily life in the region becomes even more stifling, adding to the suffering of an already oppressed population.
