On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, concerns have been raised over the Modi-led Hindutva regime’s systematic use of state-sponsored terror, racial hatred, and caste-based oppression to target religious and ethnic minorities in India.

Rights groups and observers have condemned the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-backed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for institutionalizing racial discrimination and fueling divisions along religious and caste lines. They assert that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule, racial superiority and hate speech have become tools of governance, particularly directed against Muslims, Dalits, Christians, Sikhs, and other marginalized communities.

Experts highlight that Modi’s regime is capitalizing on Hindutva ideology to propagate violence, exclusion, and systemic discrimination against minorities, deepening social polarization across India. The state’s machinery, they argue, is being used to suppress dissent, enforce religious majoritarianism, and oppress minority communities through coercion and violence.

Despite India’s modern democratic facade, the deeply entrenched Hindu caste system continues to perpetuate racial inequality. Dalits and other lower-caste communities face brutal, dehumanizing treatment justified on the basis of caste hierarchy. International human rights organizations have repeatedly flagged India’s caste system as the oldest and most pervasive form of racial discrimination in the world.

Reports confirm that the BJP government has exacerbated this situation, with its leaders openly promoting Hindu supremacist narratives. Alarmingly, prominent BJP figures and affiliates have issued public calls for violence, including explicit genocidal rhetoric targeting the Muslim population.

In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the situation is even more dire. The region’s Muslim-majority population continues to face discrimination, militarization, and human rights abuses under what many describe as Modi’s fascist regime. Observers note that India under Modi has effectively transformed into an apartheid state, systematically targeting religious and ethnic minorities through state policies and police brutality.

Global human rights bodies and watchdogs have repeatedly urged the international community to hold the Modi regime accountable for its violations, warning that India’s descent into state-sponsored racism threatens regional stability and social harmony.
