Global Govt Affairs page of X (formerly Twitter) has announced that Modi govt has issued it executive orders to withhold specific accts/ posts. Announcement comes amidst countrywide concerns that over dozen accts on X which functioned as official pages of farmers’ organizations & unions ahead of their ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest have been withheld in India. According to official statement by “X”:-
In compliance with orders, “X” will withhold these accts & posts in India alone; however, we disagree with these actions & maintain that freedom of expression should extend to these posts.
Due to legal restrictions, “X” is unable to pub executive orders, but believe that making them public is essential for transparency.
This is the first time “X” has officially spoken on GoI order asking it to withhold accounts.
