Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Condemns Preventing Religious Forum Meeting in IIOJK
April 11, 2025Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly criticized Indian authorities for blocking a key religious meeting on the controversial Waqf Amendment Act in IIOJK.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and chief of the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), has condemned Indian authorities for preventing an important meeting of the religious forum in Srinagar. The meeting was set to address concerns over the controversial Waqf Amendment Act in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
In a post on X, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq described the move by New Delhi as deeply unjust. He stated that denying religious leaders the democratic right to discuss matters of importance to the Muslim community was undemocratic. This decision comes despite the fact that representatives from across the region, including Ladakh, Kargil, and Jammu, had already traveled to Srinagar to attend the gathering.
Despite the disruption, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq announced that the MMU would move forward with its plans. A resolution on the issue will be read in mosques throughout the occupied territory on Friday. The decision shows the MMU’s determination to address the concerns of the Muslim community, even in the face of opposition.
Mirwaiz also expressed his full support for the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) in its stance against the Waqf Amendment Act. He stressed that the move against the Act was part of a larger effort to protect the rights of Muslims in the region.
