Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, emphasized that the Kashmir conflict must be addressed as a humanitarian issue, asserting that lasting peace in the region hinges on its resolution. Speaking to a large Friday gathering at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz stressed that the ongoing suffering endured by the Kashmiri people is a direct consequence of the unresolved status of the Kashmir dispute. He urged India and Pakistan to engage in meaningful, results-oriented dialogue to secure a fair and enduring solution.

Mirwaiz also paid tribute to the recently deceased Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Ahmad, a respected Kashmiri leader and scholar who passed away in Islamabad, Pakistan. He honored Molvi Muhammad Ahmad for his integrity, dedication to religious leadership, and lifelong commitment to the Kashmiri cause, noting that his selfless contributions have left a lasting legacy within the community.

Expressing disappointment, Mirwaiz lamented that Indian authorities had prevented him from holding funeral prayers in absentia for the late leader in Srinagar. He criticized the restrictions imposed on his religious rights, viewing them as part of the broader challenges faced by Kashmiris under India’s policies in the region.

Mirwaiz’s message underscored the humanitarian importance of resolving the Kashmir issue, arguing that genuine dialogue between India and Pakistan could alleviate decades of suffering and restore stability in the region.
