Srinagar – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has launched a scathing attack on the National Conference-led government, accusing it of neglecting the real challenges faced by the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Mehbooba criticized the government for focusing on “trivial matters” rather than addressing pressing issues like rising unemployment, arbitrary arrests, and the daily struggles of Kashmiri youth.

“This is a joke with the mandate people have given them,” she stated. “Did the people vote for discussions on who will transfer a Patwari, or did they expect a government to address issues like youth rotting in jails, unemployment, and daily raids?”

Her remarks reflect growing discontent among Kashmiris, who feel that their fundamental concerns are being ignored while the administration remains preoccupied with bureaucratic reshuffles. Political analysts argue that Mehbooba’s criticism highlights the widening disconnect between the ruling authorities and the public, as economic hardship and political repression continue to grip the region.

The former chief minister has been an outspoken critic of policies that she believes further alienate Kashmiris. She has repeatedly called for an end to arbitrary detentions and for genuine efforts to address the deep-seated political and economic crisis in IIOJK.

With local discontent mounting, Mehbooba’s statements are likely to resonate among the masses who are frustrated with the government’s inaction on core issues affecting their daily lives.
