Lok Sabha Elections is a Chance for People to Express Their Sentiments: Iltija Mufti

Iltija Mufti, Media Advisor to former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti, highlighted the significance of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as an opportunity for people to voice their sentiments, emotions, and feelings. Speaking at a party gathering in Gopalpora, south Kashmir, Mufti emphasized the importance of these elections in providing a platform for citizens to express themselves after five years of perceived suppression.

Mufti underscored the pervasive atmosphere of fear in Jammu and Kashmir, likening the region to an open-air jail, where people have felt unable to voice their opinions freely. She stressed the crucial nature of these elections, noting that apart from the District Development Council (DDC) elections, there haven’t been any major elections in the past five years, making this an essential opportunity for citizens to elect their representatives.

Mufti also highlighted her mother, Mehbooba Mufti’s courage in speaking out despite facing consequences for doing so. Mehbooba Mufti’s willingness to address the concerns of the people amidst challenging circumstances underscores the importance of political representation and advocacy for the rights of Kashmiris in the region.
