LG Sinha Diverts IIOJK’s Electricity to Rajasthan and UP, Says Farooq Abdullah
January 10, 2025When a region’s resources are taken away, what’s left for its people but a promise of justice and hope for restoration?
National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has strongly criticized the diversion of electricity from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh under the administration of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Speaking at a public rally in Kathua district, Abdullah condemned the move, highlighting the hardships faced by the people of the region due to power shortages.
Abdullah lamented the disregard for the needs of IIOJK residents, stating, “We are left without electricity while our resources are being diverted elsewhere. Nobody thought about the consequences or considered the needs of the people here.”
Reiterating the demand for the restoration of statehood, Abdullah emphasized that several challenges facing IIOJK cannot be resolved without it. He expressed optimism about the eventual return of statehood, saying, “The restoration of statehood is critical, and though it may take time, justice will prevail.”
Abdullah also criticized the political leadership responsible for these policies, predicting a future where their authority will wane. “We are the rightful owners of our resources, and one day, their political power will also diminish. Justice from the Almighty may take time, but it is inevitable,” he stated.
The National Conference leader’s remarks underscore the growing discontent over the governance and resource allocation in IIOJK. The rally also reflected the persistent calls from the region’s leadership and residents for restoring its statehood and ensuring fair utilization of local resources.
