Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance Renew Demand for Statehood

In a recent joint meeting in Leh, the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) reaffirmed their call for statehood and political rights under the 6th Schedule. This request follows their agitation that began after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Representing a coalition of political, social, and religious groups, both bodies are unified in their four-point agenda. They have warned New Delhi of a potential prolonged protest if their demands are ignored.

The LAB and KDA Core Committee plan to convene again to determine their next steps. Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa Jan has pledged to advocate for Ladakh’s needs both in and out of parliament.

While the leaders prefer to address these issues through dialogue, they are prepared to escalate their agitation if the Modi government does not respond to their demands.
