Lack of Basic Facilities in IIOJK Spark Protests
July 19, 2024 Off By Sharp MediaIn a clear sign of official neglect, the Azad Gunj-Drangbal road in Baramulla, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), remains in a dire state. This has led locals to protest, demanding immediate improvements.
The 4-kilometer stretch, crucial for connecting the old town, is now riddled with potholes and dust. This makes commuting an arduous task for residents, shopkeepers, and transporters alike. The lack of proper lighting worsens the situation, making night travel dangerous.
Protesters, including citizens, shopkeepers, and transporters, voiced their frustrations. “We have been forced to protest because our pleas have fallen on deaf ears,” they said. The deteriorated road has severely affected their livelihoods, with businesses suffering due to the authorities’ inaction.
The demonstrators called for immediate road repairs, proper lighting, and a ban on heavy vehicles during the day. They also pointed out poor sanitation issues, contradicting the Municipal Committee’s claims of effective waste management. The apathy of the IIOJK authorities is evident in their failure to allocate funds for road maintenance, leaving locals to suffer.
The neglect has severely impacted both the health and livelihoods of the people, who are now demanding urgent action.
