Srinagar – In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), thousands of fasting Muslims took to the streets in the Magam area of Budgam on Jummatul Wida, the last Friday of Ramazan, coinciding with Al-Quds Day, to express unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine.

The demonstration witnessed significant participation from women and was marked by fervent calls for the liberation of Masjid-al-Aqsa and an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories. Protesters marched through the bustling Magam Bazar, raising pro-Palestine slogans and denouncing the Zionist occupation. Speakers at the rally strongly condemned the international community’s silence amid the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, where over 50,000 people, including thousands of children and women, have been massacred by Israeli forces since October 2023.

The annual observance of Al-Quds Day, originally initiated to express support for Palestinian resistance, has gained momentum worldwide, including in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. For many participants in the rally, the event carried both religious and political significance, intertwining their faith with advocacy for global justice and the liberation of Palestine.

Observers note that Kashmiris have historically drawn parallels between their own struggle against Indian occupation and the Palestinian cause, highlighting a shared resistance against foreign domination. The APHC has reiterated that Kashmiris will continue to stand with Palestinians in their just struggle for freedom and self-determination, urging the Muslim world to take a united stand against Israeli oppression.

The demonstration in Magam reflects a broader sentiment across IIOJK, where people remain resolute in their opposition to oppression, whether in their homeland or in Palestine, despite India’s heavy-handed tactics to suppress pro-freedom voices in the region.
