Kashmiris Losing Properties in IIOJK Amid BJP Displacement Tactics
September 30, 2024The BJP regime in New Delhi has once again targeted civilians in Pulwama district, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), intensifying its strategy to displace Kashmiris from their homeland.
Recently, authorities seized 16 marlas of land and a two-story house owned by Bilal Ahmad Lone in the Nehama area. This action was taken under the controversial Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), reflecting ongoing punitive measures against locals.
Indian officials labeled Lone as a supporter of the Kashmiri plebiscite demand. They accused him of providing shelter to Reyaz Ahmad Dar, a freedom activist, and his associate, both of whom were reportedly killed by Indian troops in his residence on June 3, 2024.
This property seizure exemplifies the BJP’s broader strategy of displacing Kashmiris while undermining their political and economic stability. By using such pretexts, the regime aims to further its agenda in the region.
In addition to property seizures, Indian police have begun questioning individuals for sharing protest-related content on social media. This crackdown reflects an attempt to stifle dissent and intimidate those advocating for self-determination.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) condemned the BJP’s actions, describing the property confiscation as part of a colonial strategy aimed at breaking the will of the Kashmiri people.
APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas argued that these tactics are designed to weaken the political resolve of Kashmiris and diminish their economic power. He characterized these measures as part of the RSS/BJP Hindutva agenda, aimed at suppressing any dissent against the Indian government.
Minhas expressed concern over the BJP government’s use of state agencies to intimidate and humiliate Hurriyat leaders and activists. He noted that these actions terrorize the population, ultimately seeking to undermine their legitimate demand for self-determination.
The situation in Pulwama highlights the increasing tension and repression faced by the Kashmiri people in IIOJK. As property rights are disregarded and dissent is stifled, the urgency for international attention grows.
To conclude, the ongoing tactics employed by the BJP regime not only threaten the rights of individuals but also aim to destabilize the region. The international community must recognize these violations and advocate for the protection of human rights in IIOJK. The plight of the Kashmiri people calls for a renewed commitment to dialogue and a reassessment of policies that perpetuate suffering and displacement.
