Kashmiri Muslims Face Identity Crisis Amidst Hindutva Agenda in IIOJK
July 31, 2024The Muslim identity in Indian- illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) is under severe threat as the Modi government intensifies its Hindutva agenda. Since the revocation of Article 370, Kashmiris have faced a rapid deterioration in their human rights and cultural identity.
The Indian government’s actions have targeted the distinct Kashmiri Muslim culture by promoting fabricated historical narratives and imposing Hindutva ideology. The revocation of Article 370 was a move to engineer demographic changes in IIOJK, with the Modi regime granting domiciles to non-locals. This policy aims to alter the region’s Muslim majority into a minority, similar to the Israeli model of occupation.
The Modi administration’s approach reflects a settler colonial agenda, viewed by many as a final solution to the Kashmir dispute. This plan, according to UN mandates, is both invalid and illegal, designed to change the demographic character of the territory.
Kashmiris have firmly rejected the changes imposed on August 5, 2019. They are calling for international pressure on India to preserve their identity and implement UN resolutions on Kashmir. The international community must address the ongoing human rights violations in IIOJK and hold India accountable for its actions.
