Kashmiri Diaspora in UK Paid Tribute to Shaheed Syed Ali Gilani

Shaheed Gilani, who passed away on September 1, 2021, while under house arrest in Hyderpora, was celebrated for his profound impact on the Kashmiri struggle. Participants of the conference engaged in detailed discussions about his legacy, emphasizing his role as a resistance icon.
Fahim Kayani, leader of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK, praised Gilani’s contributions, declaring that he had “immortalized the Kashmiri resistance against India.” Kayani highlighted the significance of Gilani’s sacrifices, stating that “the blood of martyrs for this beloved cause is more sacred than anything else.” He encouraged Kashmiris to remain resolute, drawing inspiration from Gilani’s steadfast commitment.
Muhammad Ghalib, a senior leader within the diaspora, underscored the importance of Gilani’s life as a role model for younger generations. Ghalib urged the Kashmiri leadership to address the “disturbing situation on the ground” in Kashmir. Supporting Ghalib’s call, Afzal Butt, President of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), stressed the need for continuous lobbying and diplomatic efforts. He emphasized that maintaining international attention on Kashmir requires persistent efforts from both Pakistan and the Kashmiri diaspora. Butt highlighted the importance of keeping Kashmir’s plight visible on the global stage.
The conference also featured contributions from several other notable figures, including poets and activists such as Arif Khawaja, Qamar Abbas, Abid Khawaja, Mirza Nazir, Farooq Qadari, Dr. Khurram Bashir, Dr. Bashir Zahir, Ghazanfar Ali, Hafiz Muhammad Idrees, and Sarfraz Madani.
