Srinagar: Authorities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have intensified restrictions across the region ahead of the anticipated visit by Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, heightening the already tense security environment under the pretext of maintaining law and order.

A network of checkpoints has been established throughout the Kashmir Valley, with security forces conducting random searches and identity verifications. These surprise checking drives are causing significant disruptions to the daily lives of residents, who are already reeling under a militarized atmosphere.

The clampdown follows a high-level joint security meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi. The meeting was attended by senior officials from various Indian security and intelligence agencies, including the Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and local police units.

The meeting reportedly focused on tightening the security apparatus in anticipation of Shah’s visit, with particular emphasis on surveillance, movement restrictions, and deployment of additional personnel in sensitive areas.

Local sources describe the current situation as one of fear and uncertainty, as civilians face increasing restrictions and scrutiny. Critics argue that such measures are less about security and more about reinforcing India’s grip on the occupied territory, particularly during high-profile visits that seek to project an image of stability and control.

Rights observers and political analysts warn that the escalating security presence may deepen public resentment and further alienate the people of the region, whose calls for justice and self-determination continue to go unheard.
