Kashmir Delegation Submits Memorandum for UN Intervention
October 28, 2024 Off By Sharp MediaA delegation from the All Parties Freedom Conference’s Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter recently submitted a memorandum to the UN office in Islamabad. Their demand is immediate international intervention in the Kashmir dispute.
Comprising Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Shamim Shawl, Sheikh Abdul Matin, Zahid Safi, and Imtiaz Wani, the delegation vehemently condemned India’s unilateral actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Their message was clear: the world must not turn a blind eye.
The memorandum stated, “We, the Representatives of the People of IIOJK, reaffirming the principles of the United Nations Charter, express grave concerns about the situation in IIOJK.” This statement underscores the urgency of their plea for justice.
The document spotlighted India’s brazen annexation of IIOJK on August 5, 2019. By revoking Article 370, India has further entrenched its military presence, deploying 900,000 troops to the region. This aggressive militarization has made life unbearable for Kashmiris.
The conditions under Indian occupation are appalling. The memorandum detailed rampant human rights abuses, with thousands killed, injured, or reported missing. These statistics paint a harrowing picture of the plight faced by the Kashmiri people.
The delegation called on the UN Secretary-General to take decisive action regarding the Kashmir issue. They demanded that the UN address the dispute in accordance with established resolutions. This is a critical moment for the international community to intervene.
Establishing a commission of inquiry into human rights abuses is essential, the delegation asserted. Such a commission would provide a platform for the voices of the oppressed, allowing them to be heard on a global stage.
The demand for the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people is non-negotiable. The delegation’s insistence on this point emphasizes the fundamental rights that have been systematically denied by Indian authorities.
In a climate of escalating tensions, the urgency of these appeals cannot be overstated. The Kashmiris have long suffered under an oppressive regime, and the time for global action is now.
The international community must acknowledge the dire situation in IIOJK. Ignoring these calls for justice only emboldens the oppressor and further en2trenches the cycle of violence.
Kashmiris deserve better. They deserve a chance at self-determination and the protection of their fundamental rights. The memorandum serves as a clear reminder of the ongoing crisis, demanding immediate attention from the global powers.
The actions of India in IIOJK are not just a regional issue; they are a global concern that calls for urgent intervention. The world must stand with the Kashmiri people, demanding accountability and justice for the atrocities they face.
