Int’l Day of Remembrance and Tribute to Victims of Terrorism: IIOJK under Indian State-Terrorism
August 21, 2024As the world observes the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to Victims of Terrorism, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) remains under severe military and police control.
Since August 5, 2019, the Indian government, led by Narendra Modi, has escalated its crackdown in IIOJK by revoking the region’s special status. This move has intensified both state terrorism and political injustice.
Recent reports provide disturbing statistics: Indian troops have killed 96,343 people over the past 35 years. Since 1989, 22,977 women have been widowed, and 107,965 children have been orphaned. Furthermore, 11,264 women have been molested, and 110,518 buildings have been destroyed by Indian forces during this period.
Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has been subjected to severe repression since 1947, enduring ongoing state-sponsored terrorism. The international community must hold India accountable for these alleged war crimes and acknowledge the enduring suffering of the Kashmiri people.
The reports accuse Modi’s government of formalizing terrorism as state policy in IIOJK. They call for the prosecution of Indian troops for their acts of state terrorism and urge immediate global action to end the oppression faced by Kashmiris. This situation represents a crime against humanity that demands urgent justice.
The reports also highlight a troubling rise in anti-Muslim sentiment in IIOJK since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed power in India in 2014. Despite this, the Kashmiri people remain resolute in their quest for freedom, undeterred by the severe repression they face.
To conclude, the international community must act decisively to address the crisis in IIOJK. The continued suffering of the Kashmiri people under intense military occupation and state-sponsored violence at the hands of India calls for immediate global intervention and accountability.
