Intensified Military Operations in IIOJK: A Surge in Force and Strategy by India

The Indian Army, supported by paramilitary units and other forces, has significantly intensified its operations in the higher areas south of the Pir Panjal range in Jammu. This move aims to address the activities of those advocating for the UN-recognized right to self-determination in the region.

More than ten battalions, along with over 500 Special Forces operatives, have been redeployed to these areas. Their mission is to counter the influence of pro-freedom activists and suppress their movements. The focus has shifted to aggressive search operations across the forested regions of Jammu, including Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Doda, Kathua, and Samba districts.

The Indian military’s strategy now includes bolstering its human intelligence network with additional police personnel. This has been coupled with an increased presence of paramilitary forces and heightened operational activities. New armored and mine-protected vehicles have also been introduced to strengthen the capabilities of the armed forces.

In the course of ongoing operations, Indian forces are conducting extensive cordon-and-search missions and house raids. During these operations, local youth are being arrested and harassed, with many being labeled as over-ground workers (OGWs) or sympathizers of pro-freedom activists.

Recently, senior within the Indian Army reviewed the situation in the Jammu and Kashmir region. They have directed both military and police forces to adopt a more aggressive stance toward individuals advocating for a plebiscite and supporting the freedom struggle.

This escalation in military and paramilitary activity underscores a broader strategy to assert control over the region and diminish support for pro-freedom movements. The deployment of additional resources and personnel reflects a heightened commitment to suppress dissent and maintain order in IIOJK.
