India’s illegal Crackdown on Hurriyat Leaders to Silence Kashmir’s Voice
December 4, 2024India’s crackdown on Kashmiris is not just a military assault—it’s a calculated attempt to erase their identity and crush the struggle for self-determination.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has raised alarms over India’s escalating repression in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Indian forces and their investigative agencies are intensifying efforts to crush the ongoing struggle for self-determination in the region. The authorities are targeting Hurriyat leaders and activists, hoping to silence any dissent against their illegal occupation.
The APHC, including notable leaders like Bashir Andrabi, Imtiyaz Rishi, and Maulana Musaib Nadvi, have strongly condemned India’s relentless violations of the region’s political, social, and religious freedoms. In separate statements issued in Srinagar, they highlighted the grim reality faced by Kashmiris under the shadow of over one million heavily armed Indian troops. Empowered by oppressive laws, these forces have turned the region into a living nightmare, stripping its people of any semblance of freedom.
Since August 5, 2019, India has been systematically altering the demographic makeup of IIOJK. The APHC leaders have sharply criticized these efforts, which are rooted in the government’s Hindutva agenda. This strategy seeks to erase Kashmir’s unique identity and culture, imposing a new order that undermines centuries of history and tradition.
The recent killing of a young man in a staged encounter in Dachigam, Srinagar, has further fuelled anger among the people. The APHC has termed this as another clear example of Indian state terrorism. Such actions only reinforce the growing belief that India is waging a war not just against Kashmiri activists, but against the very soul of the region.
Kashmiris have long been subjected to widespread oppression, with little international intervention. The brutal tactics employed by India aim to crush the spirit of resistance in the region, but the APHC remains steadfast. The leaders have once again appealed to the international community to intervene and hold India accountable for its actions.
Organizations such as the United Nations, European Union, United States, United Kingdom, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have been called upon to act. The APHC demands a fair and impartial resolution of the Kashmir issue, in line with UN resolutions. Only such an approach can pave the way for lasting peace and dignity for future generations in South Asia.
India’s ongoing atrocities against Kashmiris can no longer be ignored. The world must wake up to the systematic destruction of a people’s identity and culture, and take action to end this oppression.
