India’s Corruption Ranked 96 out of 180 in Transparency International’s 2024 Index
February 12, 2025India’s corruption score continues to slide as the country ranks 96 in Transparency International’s 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, raising concerns about public sector integrity.
India’s position on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for 2024 has been ranked 96 out of 180 countries, according to a new report from Transparency International. The country’s score dropped by one point to 38, down from 39 in 2023 and 40 in 2022, reflecting growing concerns about corruption within the public sector.
The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories based on the perceived levels of public sector corruption, as assessed by experts and business leaders. The scale ranges from zero to 100, with zero representing highly corrupt systems and 100 indicating very clean governments. India’s continued decline in score highlights the persistent challenges the country faces in combating corruption.
In 2024, India’s overall score of 38 placed it far behind top-ranking nations. Denmark was ranked first as the least corrupt country, with Finland and Singapore following closely behind.
The report from Transparency International emphasizes the need for stronger anti-corruption measures and transparency in governance. As India’s position worsens on the CPI, experts warn that this may negatively impact the country’s global standing and hinder efforts to attract international investments, which require stable and transparent environments.
The declining trend in India’s corruption score calls for renewed focus on reforming the public sector, ensuring better accountability, and enhancing anti-corruption initiatives to improve the nation’s global reputation.
