Indian troops martyred five Kashmiris in March
March 31, 2025Indian forces have continued their violent crackdown in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), resulting in the martyrdom of five Kashmiris during March 2025. This ongoing wave of state-sponsored oppression has further escalated tensions in the region.
According to data released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service (KMS), among the five victims, two were killed in staged encounters orchestrated by Indian security personnel. These fake encounters, a widely condemned tactic, have been repeatedly used to justify extrajudicial killings in the disputed territory.
During the same period, Indian forces, including the Army, Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Special Operation Group, conducted mass arrests across IIOJK. A total of 49 civilians, primarily political activists, youth, traders, and students, were detained. Reports indicate that many of these individuals were charged under draconian laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Public Safety Act (PSA), which enable authorities to imprison individuals without formal charges or trial. Human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned these laws for their role in suppressing freedom of expression and political dissent.
Additionally, five individuals sustained injuries due to the excessive force used by Indian police against peaceful demonstrators. The use of brute force to silence protestors highlights the deteriorating human rights situation in the region. Reports suggest that the demonstrators were raising their voices against enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, and restrictions on civil liberties.
The situation in IIOJK remains grim as Indian forces continue their aggressive military operations under the pretext of counterinsurgency. The local population has been subjected to systematic oppression, including nighttime raids, enforced disappearances, and curfews that severely impact daily life.
The international community and human rights organizations have been urged to take notice of the worsening crisis in IIOJK. Calls for independent investigations into human rights violations and an end to arbitrary detentions have grown louder. Despite the challenges, the people of IIOJK remain resolute in their demand for justice and self-determination, as enshrined in international legal frameworks.
The recent surge in violence serves as yet another grim reminder of the urgent need for a lasting resolution to the Kashmir conflict, ensuring peace, justice, and the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.
