In a significant escalation, Indian forces have launched a series of house raids across Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), targeting Hurriyat leaders and activists in a bid to suppress calls for self-determination.

Indian authorities have ramped up their efforts to silence pro-independence voices in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) by conducting widespread raids on the homes of Hurriyat leaders and activists. These raids, carried out by Indian police, have affected multiple districts, including Naidkhai Bandipora, Handwara, Daharmuna, Warpora, Badran, Kawoosa Khalisa, and areas in Budgam and Shopian. The crackdown is seen as part of a broader effort to curtail the growing support for the region’s right to self-determination.

During these raids, Indian forces reportedly harassed the families of Hurriyat leaders, further escalating the sense of intimidation and fear. In addition to the harassment, authorities confiscated valuable materials, including house and bank documents, as well as mobile phones. The police’s actions appear to be aimed at disrupting the daily lives of those involved with organizations such as the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Muslim League, and the Peoples Freedom League.

The intensified crackdown is believed to be a response to the Hurriyat camp’s vocal support for the right to self-determination and its ongoing calls for “azaadi” (freedom) from Indian control. Under the leadership of New Delhi-appointed Lieutenant Governor Minhaj Sinha, the Indian administration has made it clear that it will use all means at its disposal to suppress these voices and prevent any movement toward autonomy.

During the house raids, the police not only seized documents and devices but also issued threats to the families, warning them to prevent Hurriyat activists from continuing their advocacy for self-determination. They were also told to be prepared for severe consequences should they continue to support the movement for Kashmir’s freedom. These actions reflect the increasing authoritarian measures being used to quell dissent in the region.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has condemned these actions, calling the raids an unjust attack on the fundamental rights of Kashmiris. Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, the spokesperson for the group, stated that such measures will not break the spirit of those who demand freedom. He emphasized that New Delhi’s aggressive tactics, which include harassment and intimidation, will not succeed in silencing the voices of Kashmiris seeking their right to self-determination.

The recent surge in house raids by Indian forces is part of a larger effort to stifle opposition in IIOJK, particularly targeting those who advocate for independence. However, despite these oppressive measures, the Hurriyat camp remains resolute in its demand for freedom and justice.
