IIOJK’s Fight for Special Status is an Uncompromising Stand: Agha Ruhullah
January 3, 2025A defiant Kashmiri leader refuses to accept hollow promises – demanding the restoration of Article 370 and the dignity of his people.
Agha Ruhullah Mehdi, Indian MP and National Conference leader, remains steadfast in his demand for the full restoration of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK)’s special status under Article 370. Refusing to yield to partial measures, Mehdi insists that accepting mere statehood without first reclaiming constitutional guarantees would be nothing short of betrayal
Taking to the platform X, Mehdi expressed readiness to spearhead protests in New Delhi, calling for Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. More than just symbolic, Mehdi seeks to rally support from at least 100 MPs to amplify the cause.
Blasting the abrogation of Article 370 as a political maneuver designed to undermine decades of Kashmiri sacrifice, Mehdi minced no words in labeling it a betrayal of his people. He declared that for him, and for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the battle is not for hollow promises but for the full restoration of rights and dignity.
Since the revocation in 2019, Mehdi’s stance has been unwavering. From public gatherings in Budgam to rallies across IIOJK, his message remains consistent – the struggle for Article 370’s reinstatement is a fight for self-respect and identity. In interviews post-abrogation, Mehdi reiterated to Kashmiris that their focus must not waver from the ultimate goal of regaining their autonomy.
Mehdi’s words signal a broader sentiment brewing across the region – a refusal to normalize the dismantling of IIOJK’s special status. As New Delhi attempts to pacify dissent with limited gestures of statehood, Mehdi’s uncompromising position serves as a reminder that IIOJK’s fight for justice and identity is far from over.
