IIOJK has a glorious history of communal brotherhood: Mirwaiz
November 17, 2024Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, highlighted the rich history of communal harmony in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), noting the longstanding mutual respect between the Muslim majority and minority communities. Speaking at the Friday congregation in Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz emphasized the deep-rooted brotherhood shared between the Sikh and Muslim communities, especially during challenging times.
He recalled the tragic Chhatti Singhpura incident, where 35 Sikhs were massacred by Indian soldiers. Initially blamed on the Kashmiri freedom fighters, an investigation later revealed that Indian soldiers were responsible for the massacre, aimed at discrediting the Kashmir liberation movement. Mirwaiz acknowledged the Sikh community’s unwavering solidarity with the Muslim community during such events.
In celebration of the Sikh festival of Guru Purab, Mirwaiz expressed hope for strengthened ties between Kashmir’s majority and minority communities, built on trust and mutual respect. However, he also raised concerns over rising road accidents in the region, which continue to claim innocent lives. He urged the local administration to implement effective measures to curb traffic mishaps and stressed the importance of parental vigilance to protect young drivers.
The Mirwaiz’s comments reflect a call for both communal unity and improved public safety in the face of daily challenges in IIOJK.
