IIOJK Elections Held by India Not a Substitute for Permanent Solution, says Kashmir Committee Chairman
November 17, 2024Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, Rana Qasim Noon, has dismissed the elections in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the Indian-imposed puppet government as illegitimate substitutes for the long-delayed plebiscite. Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, alongside MNA Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Noon reiterated that a plebiscite, as outlined in United Nations resolutions, remains the only just and lawful resolution to the Kashmir dispute.
Qasim Noon urged the United Nations to play a proactive role in resolving the decades-long issue while condemning India’s ongoing human rights violations in the occupied territory. Highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, he announced plans for the Kashmir Committee to visit the UK to engage with members of the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and the Pakistani diaspora. These efforts aim to amplify the Kashmir issue on international platforms.
MNA Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry emphasized the unified stance of Pakistan’s government and opposition in supporting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. He assured that the Kashmir Committee will continue its advocacy to highlight the plight of Kashmiris, urging the global community to take meaningful action.
The speakers stressed the need for consistent international pressure on India to end its occupation and hold a free and impartial plebiscite in accordance with UN resolutions.
