The Congress chapter in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has strongly criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ignoring the long-standing demand for restoration of statehood to the territory, urging the BJP government to fulfill its commitment in this regard without further delay.

The concerns were raised by senior Congress leaders in IIOJK, Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Yogesh Sawhney and Ravinder Sharma, during a press conference held at the party office in Jammu. They expressed disappointment that Modi, during his recent speech in Reasi, failed to mention the restoration of statehood, a promise made repeatedly by the BJP leadership.

The Congress leaders said that the continued neglect of this critical issue, nearly six years after IIOJK was stripped of its statehood and downgraded to a union territory, has deepened public resentment across the territory.

“They talk of fulfilling dream of Dogra rulers about Railway project but don’t talk of the restoration historical Dogra state which was disbanded, divided and downgraded by BJP,” the leaders remarked.
