In a recent meeting with Alia Dilawar Khanji, daughter of the Nawab of Junagarh and former Sindh Governor Nawab Dilawar Khanji, the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, discussed the striking similarities between the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir(IIOJK) and Junagarh disputes. Chaudhry emphasized that both regions have been illegally occupied by India, and he reaffirmed his commitment to fighting for the freedom of these areas from Indian control.
Chaudhry, in a passionate conversation, expressed his resolve to raise the voice of the oppressed populations of IIOJK as well as Junagarh at every available forum. He pointed out that both territories had been forcibly annexed by Indian forces during the partition of the subcontinent in 1947, highlighting the continued struggle of their peoples for justice and self-determination.
Alia Dilawar Khanji echoed the sentiment, stressing the shared history of illegal occupation. She recalled that both IIOJK and Junagarh were forcibly taken by Indian authorities, resulting in years of oppression for the people living in those regions. Khanji expressed her support for the cause of freedom for both territories, asserting, “We will fight together for the freedom of IIOJK and the state of Junagarh from India’s usurping and oppressive occupation. We will also raise our voice for the freedom of IIOJK at every forum.”
As a gesture of solidarity, Alia Khanji invited the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to visit Karachi, marking a further strengthening of the bond between the two regions in their shared fight for independence. During the meeting, Khanji also presented Barrister Chaudhry with the national emblem of Junagarh, a symbol of the state’s historical sovereignty before its forced annexation by India.

With both leaders pledging to continue their advocacy for freedom, it is clear that the fight for the sovereignty of Kashmir and Junagarh is one that transcends borders, cultures, and political divisions.
